If you are running a linux distribution that has updated libssl librarries then we have a launcher with static linked libraries for libssl 1.0 that will overcome this issue.
To use the attached launcher you must copy into it the launcher.dat from your current launcher that you got from the main download page for the simulator.
Opensuse Leap & Tumbleweed require the statically linked launcher and the package "ca-certificates.steamtricks".
